Oak and leather gun case

Leather or Canvas?

Although a best leather slip is perfected in material, handcrafting and function, it will seem a bit over the top for an industrially produced gun. Not to mention it might cost you as much as the gun itself, money better spent on the shooting ground practicing those challenging high pheasant shots. Also, stay away from any cheap leather slips, they will sooner or later let you and your gun down. To produce a leather slip retailing under 2000 SEK, too many corners have to be cut. Quality of leather, of buckles or zippers and make will inevitably suffer.

The solution is spelled CANVAS (I will not go into the matter of synthetic gun slipsA soft sleeve to protect your gun in the field. Traditionally in canvas or leather., however I made some remarks on that matter in a previous blog post). The canvas gun slip is traditionally intended for guns of a make simpler than best. Bonded with natural rubber they will protect your gun from scratches and moisture in the field, and give a pleasant low key appearance to the shooter.

As always, your choice of style should be guided by your personal needs and taste. Have a zipped slip for quicker access and drying or a buckled slip for rock solid reliability and the more traditional look. Have it terry lined for better travel protection or unlined for roll up compactness. Have it in canvas or in the best leather quality you can afford. One thing is not to question though: The slip length should closely match the length of your gun.
