A Suitable Gun Slip

2008-11-28

It is but all-to often nowadays that one sees confusion regarding choosing the right gun slipA soft sleeve to protect your gun in the field. Traditionally in canvas or leather. for your trusted gun. Really, it's quite simple, and there is no cause for the muddle: The gun slip should take its que from the gun.

If you are the current caretaker of the gun your grandfather bought years ago, and have lost the slip – for Heaven's sake do not replace it with a modern bright-coloured synthetic monstrosity. (That would be like wearing trainers to a black tie dinnerparty, or mixing an 12-year old single malt with Coca-Cola.)

Try and find a second-hand slip, as awe-inspiring in detail and style as the gun itself, and if you fail (which you probably will) buy one that at least will not embarrass the shooting piece. It also works the other way around: a modern, high-tech weapon would feel uncomfortable in an old, hand-sewn sleeve. The two make a pair, and shold go together like rhyme and reason.
